UVALDE, TX (January 25, 2023)The Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation is honored to announce a $42,706 donation from the University of Texas women’s basketball team toward building a new elementary school in the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) following the tragedy at Robb Elementary School.

The donation came as a result of ticket sales from an exhibition game played on Oct. 30, 2022. In addition to the money raised through ticket sales the following individuals also contributed: Cheryl Allen, Carol Polumbo, Debbie Hansen, University of Texas women’s basketball head coach Vic Schaefer, Texas A&M University men’s basketball head coach Buzz Williams, and University of Texas football assistant director of player development Michael Huff

“Texans across the state and the Austin community came together to support our fellow Texans from Uvalde who have been devastated by the tragic events at Robb Elementary back on May 24,” Vic Schaefer Texas Women’s Basketball Head Coach, said.  “As Texans, we had a chance, and in my mind an obligation to help our community, our family. I felt this was an opportunity for us as university, as an athletic department, for our program to reach out and in some small way if we could help the healing we wanted to be part of that.”

In the wake of the tragedy at Robb Elementary School, the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation was established to help collect funding for the construction of a new elementary campus in the Uvalde CISD. With support from generous donors, funds raised will help the children, families, and staff of the Uvalde CISD community move forward together.

“We are humbled by the gift from the UT women’s basketball team. Gifts like this that come as a result of an entire community coming together are very impactful as we work to help the community in Uvalde begin moving forward” said Tim Miller, Executive Director of the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation.
