The Meadows Foundation contributes $500,000 to UCISD Moving Forward Foundation

The Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation is honored to announce a $500,000 contribution from The Meadows Foundation to the fundraising efforts toward building a new elementary school in the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (Uvalde CISD) following the tragedy at Robb Elementary School.

“The Robb Elementary tragedy is devastating,” said Peter M. Miller, President and CEO of The Meadows Foundation. “We are hopeful that a school designed by the community of Uvalde and centered around the physical and emotional safety and support of students will be one step towards healing. We feel privileged to join with other funders across Texas to support the Uvalde community in this endeavor.”

The Foundation has awarded several grants to other Uvalde nonprofits to support the mental and emotional health of the community in the aftermath of this profound loss. This grant continues its efforts to stand with Uvalde by creating a new, model school using trauma-informed design that reflects the community’s input and needs.

In the wake of the tragedy at Robb Elementary School, the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation was established to help collect funding for the construction of a new elementary campus in the Uvalde CISD. With support from generous donors, funds raised will help the children, families, and staff of the Uvalde CISD community move forward together.

“We are humbled by the gift from The Meadows Foundation. It is through the generosity of the philanthropic community and organizations like The Meadows Foundation that we can help the Uvalde community to begin moving forward,” said Tim Miller, Executive Director of the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation.

During a Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District school board meeting on the evening of April 17, 2023, the school board approved the full schematic renderings for the new elementary school as recommended by the Uvalde CISD Community Advisory Committee.

The next phase of work includes beginning the construction process with a goal of groundbreaking happening in mid-summer 2023.
