UVALDE, TX (December 12, 2022) – The Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation is honored to announce a $2 million contribution from the Rainwater Charitable Foundation (RCF) to the fundraising efforts toward building a new elementary school in the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (Uvalde CISD) following the tragedy at Robb Elementary School.

“RCF is proud to join with others across the state to support the leaders of this effort and the people in Uvalde to make this new school a reality. The plans for the school and the care with which the school is being planned are remarkable,” said Jeremy Smith, President of the Rainwater Charitable Foundation.

In the wake of the tragedy at Robb Elementary School, the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation was established to help collect funding for the construction of a new elementary campus in the Uvalde CISD. With support from generous donors, funds raised will help the children, families, and staff of the Uvalde CISD community move forward together.

The Fort Worth philanthropic community hosted the state’s first Moving Forward Awareness breakfast at the Fort Worth Club on Nov. 8. Following the breakfast, the Fort Worth philanthropic community set a local target goal to raise $5 million to support the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation.

With the contribution from the Rainwater Foundation, more than $3 million has been contributed to date by Fort Worth foundations — including a $500K challenge gift from an anonymous fund holder at the North Texas Community Foundation. An awareness event also took place in Dallas on Nov. 9. A San Antonio awareness event is scheduled for December; events in Austin and Houston will take place in January.

“We are humbled by the gift from the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, as well as the tremendous generosity of the Fort Worth community,” said Tim Miller, Executive Director of the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation. “It is through the generosity of philanthropic communities across the state and organizations like the Rainwater Charitable Foundation that we are able to help the Uvalde community move forward.”

During a Uvalde CISD school board meeting on the evening of November 16, 2022, the school board approved the site selection and conceptual design for the new elementary school presented by the Uvalde CISD Community Advisory Committee.

The next step toward construction is for a schematic design of the new elementary school to be developed by Huckabee Architects with input from the UCISD Community Advisory Committee. The goal is to preview the schematic design to the community and present it to the Uvalde CISD school board in March 2023.
